After victories at Clemson, NYU, Mizzou, and Oklahoma, my H-1B reporting has now prompted another university to act.
This time, the University of Florida’s president personally responded.
On October 24, Governor Ron DeSantis urged other states to follow Florida’s lead on university H-1B hiring, arguing that these programs came at the expense of young Americans.
Nearly a year earlier, DeSantis had directed the Board of Governors to crack down on university H-1B use. The Board subsequently paused new H-1B hires through January 5, 2027.
Two days after his tweet, UF posted an H-1B notice for a Financial Analyst II earning $64,928.75. The requested employment period begins February 2, 2027, less than a month after the pause expires.
I was the only one to notice.
Yesterday, I posted the notice alongside DeSantis’s statement.
That tweet quickly garnered a quarter of a million views:
Today, UF responded with a message from President Stuart Bell:
“This job was posted without my approval or authorization, and it has been removed. The University of Florida will continue to remain in full compliance with Governor DeSantis’ direction on H-1B hires.”
— Stuart Bell, President of the University of Florida
I welcome President Bell’s response and take him at his word that this job was posted without his approval or authorization.
But why does it take someone like me to catch this?
UF has administrators, lawyers, and an immigration compliance office. If this posting lacked the president’s authorization, how did it reach publication? Where was the internal oversight? Did they try to sneak it through and hope nobody would notice?
I’m glad my reporting prompted a response, but taxpayers deserve accountability even when there isn’t a viral tweet exposing or demanding it.
Bigger and more in-depth scoops are coming soon. For now, I’m still enjoying some time with my newborn.

Well done, Christopher! Serious question: how did the H-1B become so pervasive in these situations? I don't get it!
He never knew! This is all total news to him!
I believe it :-)
