I’m no fan of Stefanik. Anti-semitism is also a favorite boogie man of the current elites. The ADL sucks.
But ironically those ivies are probably the most anti-Semitic places in the country in relation to student body politics. I’m sure plenty of students would love a few more Oct 7s. Just talk to them. They really do hate Jews.
And I’m saying this as someone who advocates for investigation and prosecution of Israeli groups that are blatantly manipulating US politics and discourse.
Obviously the issues are contentious, but those of us who graduated from the institution and have supported it over the years have a significant stake in it and clear legal rights that matter. Among other things, e.g., because Harvard is a private enterprise we are the only ones who have a vote for candidates to the leadership of the alumni association and the board of overseers. And all many of us ask is that the documented internal rules for violations on matters like occupation of property, notice of demonstrations, blocking of speakers, disruption of classes and other university business and so on apply equally to everyone. Many of those rules were waived in the case of the pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campus, and it is perfectly legit to argue that was wrong.
More: there are very serious problems at the school -- which is why e.g. FIRE continuously ranks Harvard at the bottom of all universities in the country on its support for free speech:
Also, on titles, perhaps you were being sarcastic, but you cannot plagiarize a title, as titles are not protected by copyright. Stefanik did not plagiarize her title -- that's not legally possible.
Further, speaking of plagiarism, that was the charge--which seems to be a convincing one if you read the relevant documents--that brought Gay down, not the congressional testimony. Gay was obviously a weak candidate for the position, and there are many who did not mourn her departure (just ask Roland Fryer, whose treatment by Gay is one of the issues FIRE has addressed in its past rankings).
You seem so enraged that none of this is likely to have any impact. And I am not arguing that Stefanik's book is strong, or that Trump's approach to the school was the best one. But the notion that there is no real issue here is unconvincing. The courts have agreed there are very serious issues here in the recent past, as in the 2023 SCOTUS ruling that it had indeed violated the rights of applicants when considering Asian students:
In fact, this case was considered sufficiently egregious to lead to a broader ruling that effectively ended affirmative action in the US--and note that this was a strongly supported ruling, 6-2 (Jackson recused herself).
Stefanik's book may be weak, but Harvard and many other similar institutions do have serious problems involving free speech and campus culture of which this episode is just one example. Denouncing Stefanik and others who make this case fixes nothing.
I was not for 1 minute tempted to read anything written by Elise Stefanik.
Claudine Gay was ousted more for non-compliance with the narrative of the day than for academic dishonesty? That's not uncommon at all. 😎 It's been the same for all the perverts too.
I am of the opinion that Israel has outsized influence on the U.S., but not to the extent that some people believe.
Throughout most my adult life, I regarded Israel as mostly a Machiavellian construct for the West, and a military outpost for the U.S. in the Middle East.
The most traditional and conservative Jews were not Zionist at all, particularly at the time that Israel was being formed. People forget that.
Most people who "see a Jew around every corner" will go after the wrong Jews (who actually believe in God,) rather than various agnostic and atheist banksters, politicians and corporatists who call themselves Jews for economic and political reasons.
That being said, the ADL is as fake as the SPLC.
As for modern Israel, which has little to do with Judaism, It's like one of those assets, like AI, that gets out of control of the creators. It's kind of like the far left wing of the Democrat party which has gotten out of control and is now wrecking the lives of the rest of them.
Iran is so much more about China than it is about Israel. People should be evaluating it as smart vs. dumb, and right vs. wrong on the basis of reality.

This might be of interest....an internal report from Harvard.

So much for free speech.
That’s great how she carries water for people that aren’t her and actually despise her.
This review did make me giggle
I gotta say, it's nice to see realistic book descriptions provided. What else would such a "book" (like object) be? ha ha ha love it
