I remember in middle school scoring in the mid to upper 90s on several IQ tests but always did significantly better on academic achievement tests.
On my first attempt of the ACT, I scored a 29, with a 23E/30M/30S/32R. My math and science scores were 95th percentile nationally, and 98th percentile state-wise.
I'm not too sure why this is the case, but ultimately these tests can be gamed through conscientiousness and time.
